Bothar achieves a 200m drive with its AVN800XC

Bothar’s Herrenknecht AVN800XC has successfully completed the trenchless component of the O’Possum Creek Trunk Sewer Project in Springfield Lakes, Queensland, Australia.

The project entailed a 200m drive through challenging ground conditions whilst also traveling under a railway, highway and alongside an environmentally sensitive creek.

Congratulations to Ray Polzin and the team for accomplishing such a challenging drive.

Bothar’s TBM “Eco” resurfaces

Eco, the tunnel boring machine on the Gold Coast Seaway project we are delivering for John Holland / City of Gold Coast, has resurfaced from its 1385m subsea crossing underneath the Gold Coast Broadway.

This project involved the installation of 1385m of OD2500, ID2100 Reinforced Jacking Pipe from Quota Park, Biggera Waters to South Stradbroke Island.  As part of the scope of works, Bothar was also responsible for the temporary works design and construction of launch and retrieval shafts required for pipe jacking operations, as well as all other engineering design required for pipe jacking operations.

A big shout out to Kieran O’Connor, Project Manager, and the entire #Bothar Project Team for maintaining world class safety standards while delivering this essential project during this unprecedented time in the world.

Lockerbie Main Sewer Project

The #Bothar Team Australia are excited to be starting the Lockerbie Main Sewer Project, North Melbourne, Victoria for the Broadspectrum Jaydo Joint Venture (BRISJAY). As part of Yarra Valley Water’s sewer pipeline which will cater for growth between Donnybrook and Beveridge in Melbourne’s northern growth area, Bothar’s AVN1200 will travel 2.65km underground installing a DN1400 GRP pipe for this essential infrastructure upgrade.

The health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, families, clients and the general public is always our number one priority.

With regards to the current COVID-19 situation the Bothar Group of Companies is following the government guidelines in the regions in which we operate with a number of protocols in place:

• Temperature checking on sites;
• Restricted Travel Policy;
• Utilisation of enhanced cleaning and sterilization practices;
• Use of COVID-19 PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) where appropriate;
• Adhering to social distancing guidelines;
• Limiting face to face meetings where possible;
• Adhering to the 4m2 per person guideline;
• Working from home where possible;
• Social isolation where mandated by public authority;
• Regular washing and sanitation of hands.

In this time of great uncertainty Bothar’s outstanding staff will continue their efforts to deliver the market leading services that we are known for to our clients throughout the world.

Our operations are diverse across a range of geographies, industries and clients and as such we are trying to contain the movement of people from one region to another. We are enhancing our communication mediums with the use of such tools as Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams to better enable us to effectively operate during these uncertain times.

Werribee West Main Sewer – Successful Completion

The Werribee West Main Sewer project in Victoria has been recently completed using a Bothar Built 1500 EPB TBM. The project consisted of 195m x NB1500 steel case for DN1200 GRP Sewer.
Well done to all involved on yet another successful project and thank you to our client, Quinn Civil, for their repeat confidence in our ability to deliver.

Singapore 1st breakthrough project

Bothar completed their first microtunnel drive in Singapore on the Keppel Road project. The 400m “S” curve at 1600mm ID was completed ahead of schedule with no lost time incidents. This is a significant achievement for the Bothar team, and particularly the region, where we now hold the record in Singapore completing 10 pipes per day.

Bothar’s AVN1200 launches at Queens Wharf – Brisbane

In the heart of Brisbane at the Queens Wharf site our AVN1200 has been launched on its 600m journey to install a gravity sewer consisting of 1500mm diameter glass reinforced plastic pipes with an 852m radius bend. The project also requires a section of 18 linear metres to be excavated by hand into Brisbane’s S1 sewer.

Mayor visits Gold Coast Seaway Project

On Wednesday 5th June 2019, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate visited the Gold Coast Seaway project to witness the development of the first stage of the regions Long Term Recycled Water Release.

Gold Coast Seaway Underway

Bothar have commenced the construction of the 1385m subsea crossing for the Gold Coast City Council in Queensland, Australia. The 2500mm OD reinforced concrete jacking carrier pipe will be utilised to convey a treated effluent discharge line to a reception shaft at South Stradbroke Island. The launch shaft is a 26m deep, 12.5m diameter secant piled construction and the reception shaft is a 7.5m diameter 26m deep pre-cast segmental sunk caisson. This sub sea crossing will be constructed underneath the seabed of an environmentally protected area of Moreton Bay, providing for its continuous use by the local community for boating, fishing and recreational activities.

Bothar Group Amalgamates with Innovative Pipeline Crossings Inc. (IPC)

Following a review of potential global opportunities, Bothar has recently amalgamated with North America’s leaders in Direct Pipe installation – Innovative Pipeline Crossings Inc. (IPC). Together the Group are an international leader who provide highly technical, state of the art solutions to complex infrastructure challenges.

The Bothar Group (with a global footprint) provide engineering solutions including design and construction for tunnelling, microtunnelling, pipejacking, auger boring, shaft sinking, small diameter Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), Bothar Built machines and Bothar cranes and, now with the amalgamation with IPC, direct pipe installation.

On 29 October, 2018 shareholders of IPC gathered for a special meeting resulting in a positive vote for the amalgamation of IPC and the Bothar Group of Companies.

IPC is a pipeline engineering, construction and contracting company focusing on balancing cost-effective drilling solutions with environmental protection. Their trenchless drilling techniques present unique cost saving and scheduling opportunities for challenging pipeline and municipal projects.

Bothar Kuwait Awarded Major Shaft & Tunnelling Contract

Bothar have been awarded the construction of the shaft and tunnelling works for the South Al Mutlaa Housing Project in Kuwait by Kolin Insaat Turizm Sanayi ve Ticaret.  Execution planning and project establishment is taking shape as we prepare to construct this major project.

KPONE Seawater Intake Outtake Tunnel

Marine recovery is near complete and preparations are underway to commence the final 1200m sub sea bed marine drive for the 2000mm ID sea water outlet tunnel in Accra, Ghana.

Rous Treated Water Pipeline Tunnel

Bothar design is in the advanced stages for the construction solution for the challenging treated water pipeline tunnel at the Night Cap Water Treatment Plant in Northern NSW, Australia.  The 1500mm treated water tunnel will run directly beneath the operational water treatment plant through volcanic ground that is more than 21 million years old.

Now Beneath Zambia

Mobilisation for the crossings for the Lusaka pipeline project is underway with our advanced tunnelling equipment comprising of the latest auger boring in rock technology. The equipment is now travelling overland through Zimbabwe en route to Lusaka in Zambia

Innovation by Bothar Built

Months of planning and preparation paid off when a Bothar Built TBM with a specially modified cutting head completed a challenging inner city live rail crossing in wet sand in 32 hours. Two crews worked continuously to complete the 26 m 2100 diameter pipe crossing in Melbourne, Australia.

Bauma 2016

In a few weeks’ time the world’s largest exhibition of construction equipment, the Bauma 2016, will start in Munich on April 11 and run through until April 18.  The Bothar Group of Companies will be exhibiting at the exhibition and would like to invite you  to come to Munich and visit us at our stand at Hall C3 Stall 142.

Bothar secure fourth major project in Qatar

Bothar have been awarded the construction of the microtunnelling works for Petroserv Limited in Doha, Qatar. The Muaither project scope include the construction of approximately 8,000m of various diameter microtunnels and represents the fourth major contract award for Bothar in Qatar this year.

Large Bothar Built FSAS machine completes first project

The second of our custom built Fully Steerable Auger System (FSAS) machines the larger 1900mm OD unit has successfully completed its first project for Brisbane City Council. The FSAS was well suited for this 180m drive through variable ground consisting of contaminated soil and low strength rock ensuring that staff was not exposed to hazardous substance whilst achieving maxing productivity and accuracy in an inner city environment.

Two more staff achieve Cert III

Congratulations to our two staff members that have just attained CERT III qualifications in Trenchless technology. The staff members now have a nationally recognised means of demonstrating their competencies to interested parties.

Bothar launch in South Africa

Bothar are launching into South Africa and will commence operations in July 14. The South African operations will be based out of Johannesburg and to coincide with the launch they will be exhibiting at the No-Dig South Africa Exhibition that will be held in Pretoria on the 29-30 July 14.
